Wayne County Commissioners approve new Emergency App

KEY ACTION Approved a three-year $23,850 agreement with Inspiron Logistics, a wireless emergency notification systems provider in Akron. The renewed agreement already funds the county’s emergency notification system, but this year’s agreement includes a new emergency messaging system app for Wayne County Schools called WENS Connect.

DISCUSSION Inspiron recently developed the school system alert app, WENS Connect and Wayne County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) requested the use of WENS Connect for county schools. Inspiron already provides EMA with a countywide SMS system for various emergencies. However, WENS Connect will help reduce the cost of SMS messages, as WENS Connect uses internet rather than cell towers to transmit emergency messages.
